We endeavour to foster strong relationships between the client and architect, the design team and contractors to ensure the success of all our projects.
From conception to completion, whatever the scale of project, GWS Architects provide a comprehensive, professional service. Each project is director-led, supported by architectural and technical staff as demanded by the size and nature of the project.
The present directors of the company are Lucy MacKenzie and Gavin MacCallum.
GWS Architects were established as a partnership in 1936, later changed to a limited company. The firm is organised whereby the partners are fully involved on a day-to-day basis with all projects. GWS Architects aim to provide their clients with a high level of service fully tailored to their needs.
GWS Architects maintain their own policy documents on, Environment & Sustainability, Health & Safety, Diversity & Equality, and Quality Systems, which are reviewed and updated annually.
We believe in a conscientious and friendly approach to all our projects and the people involved.

Lucy studied at the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture, graduating in 1998. She gained her first year of experience at the Scottish Agricultural College focusing on rural projects. Following graduation she joined GWS in 1999. Lucy qualified as a practicing Architect in 2000 and progressed to Associate and finally principal in 2007 at the firm.
Lucy regularly travels abroad with particular interest in ancient civilisations and enjoys hillwalking and long-distance hiking in Scotland.
Gavin graduated from the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture, Aberdeen in 1991. He joined GWS Architects and qualified as an Architect in 1993. Gavin worked with GWS Architects until 2001. Thereafter he worked in Edinburgh and Aberdeenshire practices gaining wider and varied experience. Gavin returned to GWS Architects as an Associate in 2007, becoming a principal in January 2011.
Gavin also likes to travel with an interest in the history, culture and landscapes of the places he visits. He enjoys cinema and reading on a wide range of subjects.
